Reflection Questions

  • Of all the activities you could invest your time in during the next three months, is there anything that would be more valuable than learning how to build relationships that truly reflect the love of Christ and the transforming power of his gospel?
  • If you are a business or ministry manager, which of these benefits would you most like to bring to your workplace: improved productivity and team cohesiveness, better balance between work and family life, less conflict, reduced staff and volunteer turnover, improved user satisfaction, or increased growth and impact? Note that these are all proven benefits of improved relational skills.
  • Think of of three other people who might benefit from learning how to relate to others with greater empathy, humility, gentleness, and self-control. Why not invite them to do this study with you?
  • Why not be the first person or group in your church, ministry, or workplace to use this material, test its value, and prepare yourselves to lead others through it three months from now?

Spanglish

Today’s movie clip is one of my favorites. It illustrates several key relational skills, including empathy, self-control, and the use of perceptive questions rather than forceful arguments. The clip is taken from the movie, Spanglish. Its central character, Flor, is a...

The Golden Result

We all know the Golden Rule: “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” But do you know the Golden Result? “Other people will usually treat you the way you treat them.” Not always, but usually. Because that’s how our brains are wired. Here is a short movie clip...
