Corlette and I are in Jackson, Wyoming, today celebrating 30 years of marriage. We took this “selfie” at the end of a hike around Jenny Lake, one of the most beautiful places in Teton National Park … almost as beautiful as my bride!

Later this morning we plan to raft ten miles of the Snake River with two dear friends from Houston, Larry and Vivian Bickle. After that we may head up to Yellowstone to see Old Faithful and some of the elk, buffalo, and grizzlies that call the Park home. The video below shows some of spectacular scenery we will see today.

What a magnificent example of the glory of God in his creation!

The reason this area is so special to us is that it’s where we honeymooned thirty years ago. We’ve made a lot of memories here, as illustrated in High Country, a poem I wrote and gave to Corlette yesterday. By God’s grace we love and enjoy each other more today than we did when we started our journey together!

Yes, there were some heated and icy moments along the way (like the night I nearly froze in my own bed), but again and again God helped us to repent and forgive and experience the reconciling power of the gospel.

This morning we prayed that all who read this post will experience this same grace so that their relationships, as well as ours, will provide the world with a compelling illustration of Jesus’ marvelous promise:

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:34-35).

May the love of Christ and the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit guard, enrich, and transform your relationships today–as it has ours–to the glory and praise of God!
